Siteground Review and Guide – The best Wordpress Hosting? [2021]

A guide, the pro's and con's, alternatives and a surprise at the end..

First of all: Many thanks for visiting my Siteground review!

As you may have read on my website, I'm the owner of several websites and I used to own some webshops. For one of my websites, I make use of the services from Siteground.

But why should you listen to me?

Well, let me answer that really quick. As you might have noticed, I've been active in the online marketing world since 2013. In the past few years I've tested a lot of hosting providers, including Siteground. The reason I've wrote this review is pretty simple: Siteground is a fast and reliable Wordpress Hosting provider, but it also has some con's.

In this review, I'll try to cover every subject around Siteground and give you my critical opinion.

The average reading time of my review is about 5 minutes. If you don't have a lot of time, skip to the several sections of my article with the table of contents below. Or you can bookmark this page for later.

By the way, don't miss the bonus at the bottom!

What are you going to learn in this Siteground review?

In this in-depth review, you're going to learn the following things:

  • What is Siteground?
  • Siteground plans & pricing
  • Which plan is suitable for you?
  • What I like and don't like about Siteground
  • How to register your domain at Siteground
  • What makes Siteground so unique?
  • My final verdict
  • And last but not least a surprise at the end

In case you get any questions, please feel free to ask them in comments section at the bottom of this page. Let's begin!

What is Siteground?

Siteground is a well known hosting provider from Bulgaria and has been around since 2004. With it's servers spread around the world, Siteground delivers an ultra fast network based on Google Cloud.

Siteground excels in customer service and the best value for money. More on that later!

With over 550 employees and more than 2.000.000 domains, you may say Siteground is a big player in the world of webhosting.

Siteground offers different types of webhosting, for different types of websites and different types of companies.

Siteground plans & pricing

The plans at Siteground are pretty straightforward. You can choose between three plans, as you can see in the picture below. I'm not going to sum up each plan, but I will show you the differences between each plan. I will also show when to choose which plan.

Disclosure: Please note that some of the links on this page are affiliate links and at no additional cost to you, I’ll earn a commission. Know that I only recommend products and services I’ve personally used and stand behind. When you use one of my affiliate links, the company compensates me, which helps me run this blog and keep all of my in-depth content free of charge for readers like you.

The cheapest plan is the StartUp plan, starting at €5,99 per month. Also good to mention: GrowBig and GoGeek come with a lot of extra's, such as on demand back-ups, extra fast caching and extra support.

Every plan is also delivered with the same features, like: Free SSL, a daily backup, free e-mail, WP-CLI and SSH and unlimited databases.

To be honest, I'm not very technical. I just asume these are good features, because I couldn't find any negative responses on the features online.

Which plan is suitable for you?

Choosing the right plan is very important, because you want the right features for your website or business. The essential difference between the three plans are:

  1. The number of websites you can run
  2. The web space
  3. The extra features with the GrowBig and the GoGeek plan

You should choose the StartUp plan, when you currently have 1 website and you don't have intentions to build another website. The StartUp plan should suit you the most.

The GrowBig plan is suitable when you have multiple websites. An extra advantage of the GrowBig plan is that it comes with a staging environment. On this environment you can test different things like plugins, updates, measurement issues and so on. If you only have 1 website and you want a staging environment, choose GrowBig also.

The last plan, GoGeek, is suitable when you host more than 5 (large) websites. If you want to make use of the fastest servers and extra support, choose GoGeek also.

You don't need a lot more choice, because the three plans above should cover everything.

Even if you have like 30 large websites, you can choose 3 different GoGeek plans with 3 seperate accounts. This shows that Siteground can deliver everything you need.

In the image below, you can see some extra features that make Siteground stand out from other hosting providers.

What I like and don't like about Siteground

Now you know what Siteground is, what plans they offer and what pricing they have, let's focus on some other USP's.

Siteground is one of the most talked about hosting providers in the world. They are even recommended by Joomla and Wordpress.

I would like to show what I personally like and don't like about Siteground. I try to be as transparant as possible, because I want to give you the right advice.

What I like
  • Siteground has servers all over the world. This takes website loading times to an all time low and is very important for mobile visitors and Google.
  • Every plan comes with free SSL, free e-mail, free Cloudware CDN. Siteground was one of the first companies in the world to provide these features for free.
  • The customer service is truly unknown. Don't need to say more here.
  • Siteground uses the fastest servers, newest processors and latest PH version to make sure loading times are low.
What I don't like
  • The support is fully in English. That's not a problem for me, although I'm Dutch, but I can imagine not everybody is good at English.
  • Siteground is not the cheapest, but also not the most expensive Wordpress hosting. There are cheaper solutions, but the chance is high that the customer service and features are also more worse.
  • The price you pay for the first year of your plan is low, but the renewal prices are high. It is common to get some sort of discount, but at Siteground the price you pay can double in the next year.

How to register your domain at Siteground

This Siteground review is mainly focused on hosting, but you can also register your domain at Siteground. This is fairly easy as you can check here!

This way, you have everything under one roof which kan be pretty usefull. I try to buy my hosting and domain at the same provider, but I make use of several hosting providers.

To register your domain at Siteground, all you have to do is check if your domain is available, choose an extension (.com or .nl for instance) and add it to your payment. After that you can buy the domain or even add a hosting plan.

You'll pay about €14 for a domain at Siteground, which isn't really cheap nor expensive.

What makes Siteground so unique?

When looking for Wordpress hosting, you have a lot of companies to choose from. But what makes Siteground stand out from other companies?

I've combined my opinion with online research. There are a few things that make Siteground unique, compared to other hosting providers:

Customer service

Every review found online tells you that the customer service from Siteground is one of their USP's. You can contact them 24/7 via e-mail, phone, ticket system or chat. This shows that Siteground takes it's customers seriously.

You can have a response within 5 minutes when you submit a ticket or even faster when you use the chat. I never had to use the customer service (yet), but my online research tells me that the customer service is outstanding and can't be compared to other hosting providers.

Website uptime

Another unique aspect is the website uptime. One of my websites, hosted on Siteground, has only been offline once for about 2 minutes. Siteground also claims a 99,9% uptime, which is a lot higher than other competitors claim. And they live up to that claim ;).

Latest technologies

The developers from Siteground are always working on new technology to help improve site load times. They also make use of the Google Cloud, they use SSDs for storage, they make use of the NGINX web server technology and they use the latest PHP versions.

This shows that Siteground is constantly working on improvement to make sure they offer the fastest loadings times possible.
