But why should you listen to me?

Well, let me answer that really quick. As you might have noticed, I've been active in the online marketing world since 2013. In the past few years I've tested a lot of tools, including InterestExplorer.

The reason I've written this review is pretty simple: This tool is only one of the few tools I use on a regular basis.

InterestExplorer is not expensive and reveals 1000's of hidden Facebook interest targeting options, so you can run ads with less competition. More on that later!

Targeting the right audience on Facebook is important, because it wil lower your ad costs, it has less competition and you can target audiences that you didn't even know existed.

What is InterestExplorer?

InterestExplorer is software that uses Facebook's Marketing API to show targetable Facebook interests that are not available through Facebook's own user interfaces like the Ads Manager and Facebook Audience Insights.

It's an essential and important tool for any type of company that uses Facebook Ads to gather leads, attract new customers or even just to drive relevant traffic to your website.

Wether you own a small or big company, an consulting company or an e-commerce business, targeting the right people at the right time is a crucial factor in advertising. InterestExplorer helps you with that mission!

Which problem does InterestExplorer solve?

Nearly all of Facebook's revenue comes from advertising. This was 22.2 billion dollar in Q3 2020, as you can see in the picture below. So it is no suprise that they will do anything to ramp up those numbers. After all, companies need to make money right ;)

Because Facebook Ads Manager only shows 25 interest suggestions related to a topic, they effectively steer advertisers to use these broad interests.

Here's an example (in Dutch) when you search for "marketing" within the Facebooks Ads manager. Every company in the world that uses "marketing" as a search query get's to see those same 25 targeting options as shown in the screenshot below.

Don't mind my Dutch settings in the picture above*

More than 10 million advertisers see those same 25 interest suggestions all the time, so competition within those targeting options is very high and grows continuously.

I think you can see where this is going.....

Everyone is targeting the same broad audiences, which results in a bidding war between advertisers, so reaching these audiences become more and more expensive over time.

InterestExplorer offers a great solution for this problem!

InterestExplorer provides an advantage to its users, by showing interest targeting options that would otherwise remain hidden.

Simply because most other advertisers won't even know these interests are available for targeting and don't have access to InterestExplorer.

Another problem InterestExporer solves is the ability to show very specific target options and niche targeting options to it's users.

Facebook only shows broad interests, with large audience sizes. But many companies don't really need these broad interests. They want very specific and hyper-relevant audiences, to get the most out of their budget.

This is also a problem InterestExplorer can fix for you.

InterestExplorer features

So now you know what InterestExplorer is and what problems this tool solves, let's take a look at all the different features that InterestExplorer offers.

Find hidden interests in different languages

The main feature of InterestExplorer is to reveal relevant interests, that are hidden in the Facebook Ads Manager, but that can be targeted within your Facebook campaigns.

InterestExplorer uses the Facebook Marketing API to get these interests, related to any topic you enter into the tool.

By using the Facebook Marketing API, InterestExplorer can perform a real-time check if an interest can still be targeted.

Every topic and search has a potential to show you hundreds of related interests to target, while Ads Manager shows just 25 interests suggestions.

On top of that you can also search in different languages. This way you can find even more specific local language interests, on top of the English interests.

It can be a valuable feature when you're targeting a non-English speaking audience with your Facebook ads.

Interest highlighter for Audience Insights - Chrome extension

Within Facebook you have the option to analyze people connected to your page and people on Facebook, with Facebook Audience Insights. This way you can gain extra knowledge about your (potential) audience and Facebook pages your audience might like.

These pages can be interesting to target, but the problem is that a lot of pages can't be targeted and Facebook Audience Insights doesn't show you which ones can be targeted.

The only way to find out which pages can be targeted, you would have to manually copy-paste them into the Facebook Ads Manager. You can imagine that this takes ages and is boring at the same time.

InterestExplorer has a solution for this, with the Interest highlighter for Audience Insights Chrome extension!

This Chrome extension highlights targetable interests, when browsing Facebook Audience Insights.

No more copy-paste within ads manager and no more time waisting!

But how does this look? After purchasing InterestExplorer, you'll get access to the Chrome extension. You simply add it to your browser, connect with your Facebook profile and go to Audience Manager.

Then you will see different pages that can be targeted within Facebook Ads Manager. You can recognize these pages thanks to the little red circle next to the name of the page:

All these features combined make sure that you spend your precious time well. It will speed up your research and optimize your workflow.

How do you use InterestExplorer?

InterestExplorer is really easy to use and self explanatory. The design is simple and straightforward and does not contain any unnecessary elements.

In the example below, I will show you how InterestExplorer works. I will walk you through the tool by using a Dutch example of one of my sites. This way I can show you the most important feature.

Example: I have a Dutch blog about dogs and I want to target dog owners in the Netherlands.

I go to InterestExplorer, search for different hidden interest by typing the word "hond" in the search bar (hond is the Dutch word for dog).

Then I select the Dutch language and click on "Explore". Within a split second, this tool will show me 67 relevant interests that I can target with my ads.

I can repeat the same proces, but then with the English word for "hond" (which is dog). This will even show you more interest targeting options. In this case more than 300 different options I can target with Facebook Ads.

I can select several interests and add them to the selection-bar. After that, I can copy them to the clipboard, save it as a project to add more interests in the future or export to CSV.

When I've copied the interests to my clipboard, I can now add them to my Facebook campaign within Facebook Ads Manager.

On the right side, you can see the Facebook and Google logo. Clicking on these logo's will take you to the relevant search results on Facebook and Google. This way you can gather even more information about your target audience and the interests that they have.

As you can see, researching interest targeting options on Facebook is childsplay with InterestExplorer!

InterestExplorer support

I always try to look at support when I review software and tools. Support is very important and can make or break many tools.

I never really had to use the support of InterestExplorer before, but I did send them a ticket about joining the affiliate program.

I've sent the ticket on a Friday a few weeks back and got a response on saturday morning, which was really quick!

If all their customer support is this quick, this should be an example for many companies.

Besides a ticket-system, InterestExplorer also offers an online knowledge base that covers the most frequently asked questions, errors and issues. 9 out of 10 ten times, you can find a specific answer to your question in this knowledge base.

It is safe to say that InterestExplorer has it's customer support on lock, but other tools have more contact options available. Think of things like a seperate mailadres or a phone number.

What I like and don't like about InterestExplorer

As I said earlier, I use InterestExplorer on a regularly basis. This way I can make sure that I discover the best Facebook interest targeting for my own campaigns and campaigns of my clients.

I would like to show what I personally like and don't like about InterestExplorer. I try to be as transparant as possible, because I want to give you the right advice.

What I like
  • InterestExplorer really has a great solution for all the interest targeting options that Facebook doesn't show. Thanks to this tool, I've managed to find the right target audiences for several client's and even with a better performance than before I used InterestExplorer.
  • The Interest highlighter for Audience Insights Chrome extension saves a lot of time and hassle! I haven't come across a tool that does a similar thing and therefore it is unique to InterestExplorer.
  • Because InterestExplorer makes use of the Facebook Marketing API, you can assume that the data within the tool is always up to date. A lot of other tools temporary store the data and don't use the API, so they are less reliable when it comes to data.
  • As you will find out later in this InterestExplorer review, the pricing is very competitive and one-time payment only.
What I don't like
  • Eventhough InterestExplorer shows interests that Facebook hides in the Ads Manager, it doesn't show the interests by categorie. This could he helpfull for advertisers that want to target certain categories or industries.
  • I never really had to make use of the client support, but you can only reach them by mail or by tickets. Other Facebook tools do have client support by phone, so that's something I don't like about InterestExplorer.

InterestExplorer pricing & Exclusive bonus!

In this section we'll dive into the pricing of InterestExplorer. At this point, they offer 2 different types of plans, but they used to have 3 different plans. The current plans are Standard and Extended.

The Standard plan costs €97 excluding VAT and the Extended plan costs $197 excluding VAT.

You can check the right plan here.

Both plans give you a lifetime access and both plans have they same tools. The only difference is the number of accounts you can create within InterestExplorer.

The Standard plan is suitable for 1 person and 1 account.

The Extended plan is suitable for up to 10 persons. This can be needed when you have an agency or a company with a larger marketing department.

Final verdict: InterestExplorer review

At this point, you should've learned the following things through my InterestExplorer review:

  • What is InterestExplorer?
  • Which problem does InterestExplorer solve?
  • InterestExplorer features
  • How do you use InterestExplorer?
  • What I like and don't like about InterestExplorer

As you can read, I'm a big fan of InterestExplorer and everything that this tool does. It does exactly what you need from an interest targeting tool, while being really affordable!

InterestExplorer also saves you a lot of time and it shows you way more targeting options than Facebook itself. If that doesn't make you happy, nothing will!

Having bad campaigns with broad targeting, low interaction and high costs per acquisition are a thing of the past!
